The Legacy So Far by MidshipmanK The Legacy So Far by MidshipmanK
August 21, 2012

You say, "I am so confused."

I will explain.

Today is August 21st, the birthday of The Manual of Aeronautics. I received my copy of said book rather late in the day, but have already read it. My favorite part: Deryn's biography. XD

Anyway, this was an attempt to bring together everything that the Leviathan trilogy has influenced me to have, if only in physical objects. (Because who can read these books and not pick up the best swear words?)

So, this is what is in the picture (if you can make any sense of it):
A paperback and hardback copy of Leviathan
A paperback and hardback copy of Behemoth
A hardback copy of Goliath
A hardback copy of The Manual of Aeronautics (Would it ever be paperback?)
A gigantic German-English dictionary
A travel guide to Vienna
A steampunk tarot deck
Two books on Hapsburg history
Several pencils used only for writing fanfiction (I'm weird, okay?)
Several pens and highlighters that are the colors of Deryn and Alek's eyes
A "deryn" pen (because it's covered in birds ^^)
Several sketchbooks because Deryn inspired me to attempt to gain drawing skills
A folder containing a collection of fan art and fanfiction I love, including the infamous Bonus Chapter of Goliath
A white scarf (like an aviator's)
A pair of steampunk glasses
A pair of steampunk mechanic's goggles
A compass
A little globe on which I drew the Leviathan's route around the world
My two Leviathan fanfiction notebooks
A book of letters I write to the characters (the weirdness continues XD)
A framed quilt design of the cover of Leviathan that my awesome friend gave me for my birthday
A Hapsburg crest wax seal that the same friend brought back for me from Vienna
A postcard of hot air balloons that the awesome JarOfHope sent me with a little inscription as to where Deryn, Alek, and Bovril are in the picture
A file folder of my own (typed up) Leviathan fanfiction
My three English notebooks from last year that are decorated with much Leviathan love
A page from a book called "How to Build a Flying Machine" that a 'flying machine' has been drawn on (bought from a store called Typo)
A road map of Austria, Switzerland, and Italy
A steampunk-y vest
A countdown to the Manual's release

Whew. There are things not included, though, like my framed print of "Ascending" from Leviathan. It is represented by a print-out of the illustration. And a Styrofoam block I decorated with Leviathan quotes, and a poster I made as a tribute to the trilogy. There are also comics doodled in my math and Spanish notebooks and other little odds and ends. My sketchbook I got from the Lefties' Store simply because it had Charles Darwin on the cover....Plus, I'm left-handed. ^^

Okay, enough chatter. Basically, Leviathan is everywhere in my life and I'm pretty sure this is not the end, no matter what Scott-la says on his blog. (Is he trying to make people cry?)

Leviathan belongs to the ever amazing Scott Westerfeld so I blame him for this messy image. ^^

Also, ignore any Shakespeare, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, or other miscellaneous objects you may see behind and above. You didn't expect me to clear away everything, did you?

It's rather thin, but still worth it. Took me a while to look at the page with the behemoth, though. Quite frightening, even if it is just a picture.
